Job Description
**Job Title:** Senior Civil Engineer – Civil Transit Design Lead **Role Summary:** Seasoned civil engineer responsible for leading the design of large‑scale transit infrastructure—including rail corridors, roadways, LRT/BRT, and related linear site development. Oversees all civil design phases in a 3D modelling environment, mentors junior staff, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, and ensures delivery within budget, schedule, and quality standards across multiple projects. **Expectations:** - Drive design development from concept to final deliverables. - Lead and mentor a small team of engineers/designers and junior staff. - Maintain compliance with agency codes, GHD BIM and quality standards. - Manage stakeholder communication (clients, sub‑consultants, municipalities, utilities). - Balance multiple concurrent projects while meeting tight deadlines. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead civil design for track grading, roadways, multi‑modal corridors, and associated linear infrastructure. - Produce and review 3D models, drawings, quantities, technical memos, specifications, and contract documents. - Coordinate civil deliverables in Civil 3D (or equivalent) following established procedures. - Supervise and mentor junior engineers, EITs, and technicians; foster collaborative team approach. - Interface with Business Group Leaders, Project Managers, and Directors to align design scope with program objectives. - Oversee budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation for design activities. - Liaise with sub‑consultants, municipal agencies, utility providers, and clients; prepare reports and contract documents for review agencies and the public. - Participate in design‑bid‑build and design‑build procurement processes. - Contribute to development and promotion of GHD standard civil details and training materials. **Required Skills:** - 15+ years designing transportation infrastructure (rail, road, LRT/BRT). - Proficiency in 3D design tools: AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation. - Strong knowledge of Ontario agency codes and standards. - Experience with BIM collaboration platforms (ProjectWise, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud) – preferred. - Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and attention‑to‑detail abilities. - Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. - Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent). - Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registration in Ontario. - Valid driver’s license (if required for site visits).
