Human Factors Consultant (All Levels)
**Role Summary**
Provide Human Factors and Ergonomics expertise for rail projects, supporting systems and human performance across design, operations, and maintenance stages. Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver user‑centered solutions, accessibility compliance, and operational efficiency.
**Expectations**
- Demonstrate proficiency in human‑centered design and ergonomics within the railway sector.
- Deliver high‑quality assessments and recommendations that influence project design and outcomes.
- Maintain professional standards, aiming for Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CEHF) chartership.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Conduct usability evaluations of equipment, layouts, and HMIs according to Human Factors standards.
- Execute project ergonomics surveys; observe signalling, level‑crossing control, and measure workload to inform design and training.
- Develop Concepts of Operations, and prepare access, maintenance, and room‑layout assessments for new or modified stations and depots.
- Design control rooms and workstations, ensuring ergonomics, safety, and accessibility.
- Assess accessibility and inclusive design for all project components.
- Elicit, document, and translate ergonomic requirements into actionable user‑needs for project teams.
- Collaborate on Operational, Maintenance, and Customer Experience strategies, including staff recruitment and training plans.
- Present findings, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders, clients, and project teams.
**Required Skills**
- Applied ergonomics methods (task analysis, situation awareness, workload) in a rail or similar high‑consequence environment.
- Familiarity with railway operations, infrastructure, and user roles.
- Strong analytical, data‑interpretation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to interface with multi‑disciplinary project teams.
- Proficiency in reporting tools and ergonomic assessment software.
- Effective communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
- Knowledge of accessibility regulations and inclusive design principles.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Ergonomics, Human Factors, or a related discipline.
- Membership or active pursuit of chartership with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CEHF).
