Job Description

**Job Title:** Senior Software Engineer, Security **Role Summary:** Lead the design, development, and maintenance of security features for a large‑scale, high‑traffic web platform. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed secure architecture, ensure performance compliance, and respond to security incidents in a transparent, distributed environment. **Expectations:** - 5+ years of software engineering with a focus on security. - Proven experience in PHP and JavaScript codebases. - Ability to autonomously create proofs of concept, author design documents, and decompose complex projects for teammates. - Strong communication skills for translating technical security concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design, implement, and deploy security features that protect against modern authentication, bot abuse, and emerging threats. - Conduct code reviews, enforce secure coding standards, and champion testing, observability, and reliability best practices. - Perform security maintenance, remediate technical debt, and support incident response for application security events. - Work with engineering, product, and community teams to make safe architectural decisions. - Mentor junior engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing on security practices. **Required Skills:** - Secure software development (PHP & JavaScript). - Threat modeling, secure design patterns, and vulnerability mitigation. - Experience with anti‑abuse mechanisms (CAPTCHA, bot detection) and web/backend/database security. - Code review for security gaps, bug identification, and patching. - Remote, distributed team collaboration. **Preferred Skills:** - Familiarity with CAPTCHA and bot detection technologies. - Experience building countermeasures against web, backend, and database attacks. - Knowledge of MediaWiki or similar wiki platforms. - Open‑source contributions. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). - Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, OSCP) are a plus but not mandatory.
