Job Description
Job title: Packaging Engineer Role Summary: Design, document, and implement protective packaging solutions for low‑volume, high‑mix production of precision‑machined, high‑tolerance components, ensuring minimal handling and shipping damage while maintaining sensitivity to surface finishes. Expectations: Deliver repeatable, standardized packaging procedures and materials specifications; maintain full traceability in TeamCenter; communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams; meet project milestones in a contract, hybrid environment. Key Responsibilities: - Analyze mechanical component tolerances and surface finish requirements to define protective packaging criteria. - Design custom packaging structures, select materials, and specify assembly instructions for low‑volume, high‑mix lines. - Document packaging designs, procedures, and material specifications in clear visual and written formats. - Integrate packaging documentation into TeamCenter, ensuring consistent reuse across programs. - Review and optimize packaging for cost, sustainability, and performance. - Collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, and shipping teams to validate packaging effectiveness. - Provide technical guidance and training on packaging best practices. Required Skills: - Proven experience designing packaging for precision mechanical components with high‑tolerance and sensitive surface finishes. - Strong knowledge of materials engineering, packaging design methods, and protective strategies for low‑volume manufacturing. - Proficiency in developing standardized procedures and traceable documentation (TeamCenter or similar PLM). - Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to produce clear, concise visual documentation. - Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and capable of working independently within a contract role. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Packaging Engineering, or related field. - Professional certifications in packaging design or materials engineering are a plus. - Legal U.S. work authorization required; no sponsorship.
