Job Description
**Job Title:** Specialist Forestry Advisor **Role Summary:** Provide expert forestry management advice for commercial projects across South Wales. Lead technical forestry services, conduct site inspections, monitor operations, procure and manage resources, and deliver timely, evidence‑based advice. Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and stakeholders to ensure sustainable, commercially viable outcomes. **Expectations:** - Deliver high‑quality technical guidance without line‑management duties. - Actively engage in site visits, risk identification, and project monitoring. - Influence outcomes through effective communication with developers, project managers, and partners. - Contribute to policy alignment and strategic planning within technical groups. - Uphold health and safety standards and participate in incident response. - Commit to personal development and diversity and equal‑opportunity policies. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Serve as technical lead for forestry services across the estate. 2. Conduct site‑based walkovers, assessments, monitoring, and supervision of forestry operations (e.g., tree clearance). 3. Identify risks and issues, communicating findings to project managers and developers. 4. Review, analyse, and interpret complex forestry data; provide timely advice on valuations, UKWAS compliance, and other forestry issues. 5. Procure forestry contract resources and manage contractor performance. 6. Participate in the development of team work plans; execute agreed actions to advance commercial projects. 7. Contribute to technical and strategic groups, ensuring policy consistency and delivery alignment. 8. Represent the team at developer and external events; build and maintain relationships and communication lines. 9. Undertake health and safety duties and support incident response activities. 10. Engage in personal development plans (Sgwrs) and other reasonable duties as per role grade. **Required Skills:** - Degree in forestry or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience in forest management. - Extensive knowledge of forest planning, operations, inventory, tree‑crop valuation, and UKWAS standards. - Strong interpersonal and team‑working skills; ability to interact effectively with all organisational levels. - Persuasive communication abilities for explaining complex issues and influencing developer support. - Self‑motivated, capable of independent, lone work. - Excellent written and spoken communication in English. - Full UK driving licence. - Welsh language proficiency at Level A1 (basic understanding and pronunciation). **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Forest Management, Environmental Science, or a comparable field. - Professional membership in progress (e.g., CompSocForestry, Forest Industry Association). - UKWAS certification or equivalent preferred. - Valid full driving licence.
