**Job title:** Senior System Software Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Lead installation, maintenance, and optimization of IBM z/OS, z/Linux, and z/VM environments for mission‑critical applications. Ensure System Performance, SLA adherence, and secure operations through proactive tuning, debugging, and cross‑team collaboration.
**Expectations:**
- 15+ years in z/OS, z/Linux, z/VM management.
- Proven track record of end‑to‑end lifecycle ownership (install, upgrade, maintenance).
- Self‑starter capable of independent work in a remote contract setting.
- Strong communicator for status, schedules, and escalation.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Install, patch, and maintain z/OS and z/Linux across multi‑LPAR Sysplex.
- Configure and tune CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ subsystems to meet performance SLAs.
- Manage SMP/E, SMPE, zOSMF workflows, and IBM ShopZ support tickets.
- Deploy and manage DASD, NFS, SAN, and network infrastructure (Cisco, Broadcom/Brocade).
- Configure HMC, Coupling Facility, HCD, and security settings (RACF, SSL/TLS, IBM GSK).
- Develop system‑wide manual tests, test specifications, and execution plans.
- Debug system failures using IPCS, SLIP, EREP, GTF; analyze svc dumps and logrec data.
- Write and maintain utilities in Assembler and Rexx for system exits and diagnostics.
- Coordinate with local and remote teams, communicate progress, and timely issue escalation.
**Required Skills:**
- Advanced knowledge of z/OS, z/Linux, z/VM administration and Sysplex design.
- Expertise with SMP/E, SMPE, zOSMF, IBM ShopZ, and DASD management.
- Performance tuning for CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ.
- Network configuration (LAN, SAN, Cisco, Brocade).
- Security configuration (RACF, SSL/TLS, IBM GSK).
- HMC, Coupling Facility, HCD, and hardware configuration skills.
- Proficiency with debugging tools: IPCS, SLIP, EREP, GTF.
- Basic Assembler and Rexx scripting for utilities and diagnostics.
- Strong problem‑solving, independent work ethic, and remote collaboration.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Minimum BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
- 15+ years of hands‑on z/OS/z/Linux experience, including Sysplex and hardware management.
