Director, AI Sciences
**Role Summary**
Lead the development and production of AI/ML systems that enable target identification, validation, and drug development. Directed team of data scientists and engineers, set technical strategy, and collaborate closely with data infrastructure, assay development, biology validation, and discovery teams to drive end‑to‑end AI pipelines from method design to production deployment.
**Expectations**
- PhD (or equivalent) in genomics, computational biology, computer science, or related field.
- 3–7 years of industry experience delivering AI/ML solutions for target discovery/drug development, fully owning projects from concept to production.
- Proven leadership in a matrix environment; ability to mentor, scale a high‑performance team, and establish quality standards.
- Strong software engineering habits: version control, CI/CD, containerization, automated testing.
- Proficiency in Python, modern ML libraries (TensorFlow/PyTorch), cloud platforms (AWS) and modern data tooling (Spark, Kubernetes).
- Ability to communicate complex results to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Permission to work in the UK (Cambridge area; hybrid arrangements possible).
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Define AI technical strategy and roadmap for the platform and drug discovery functions.
2. Lead, mentor, and grow the AI/ML team; maintain high standards for reproducibility and quality.
3. Partner with Data Infrastructure to model, version, and secure data schemas for ML training and inference.
4. Develop NGS‑based methods for target discovery and validation.
5. Build imaging AI pipelines for histology segmentation, detection, and classification, including weak/self‑supervised learning and rigorous model evaluation aligned with biological goals.
6. Create AI methods to accelerate target validation via standardized assays and support broader drug development timelines.
7. Translate results and recommendations into concise technical and business communications.
**Required Skills**
- Leadership & collaboration in cross‑functional, matrixed teams.
- Deep expertise in Python and modern ML frameworks.
- Cloud (AWS) architecture, containerization, CI/CD, and software quality practices.
- Domain knowledge: genomics/NGS analysis, imaging AI for histology, and AI integration into target validation and drug discovery pipelines.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a meticulous, detail‑oriented mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and managerial audiences.
