**Job title:** Web Software Developer
**Role Summary:**
Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and enhance CDC’s internal and external digital properties, including websites, portals, web applications, mobile sites, widgets and data‑visualization interfaces. Deliver secure, accessible, high‑performing solutions that support public health communication, data dissemination and prevention initiatives, while complying with federal, CDC, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
**Expectations:**
- Produce production‑grade web solutions in a federal environment.
- Ensure compliance with Section 508, WCAG, responsive design, SEO, analytics, and security/privacy requirements.
- Collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders to meet program objectives and deadlines.
- Provide expert technical recommendations on emerging web, mobile, and digital technologies.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Build and maintain websites and content modules using CDC‑approved WordPress templates and frameworks.
- Configure navigation, headers, footers, layouts and templates per CDC web policies.
- Support and maintain CMS, web analytics, graphical interfaces, data visualization interfaces, and cloud‑based technologies.
- Develop secure IT solutions (web apps, electronic surveys, reports, micro‑services, APIs).
- Perform QA, cross‑browser testing, validation, and pre‑release approvals.
- Analyze metrics to improve SEO, site architecture, usability and performance.
- Identify and remediate broken links, formatting errors, and performance issues across web and social media channels.
- Conduct accessibility scans, remediate non‑compliant items, and optimize images, PDFs and other assets.
- Ensure compliance with CDC IT security policies, protect PII, and collaborate with security officers.
- Migrate legacy content, support template upgrades, and modernize web components.
- Participate in CDC workgroups, meetings and advisory forums on web and digital initiatives.
**Required Skills:**
- Minimum 2 years of professional web development in a federal setting.
- Proficiency in HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, responsive frameworks, and WordPress site building.
- Experience with web accessibility (Section 508), SEO, web analytics, and cross‑browser testing.
- Strong QA/testing workflow knowledge.
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat for PDF remediation.
- Secure web development practices, understanding of privacy and security requirements.
- Knowledge of CDC digital policies and clearance processes.
- Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
- Federal background check / clearance required.
