Job Description
Job title: Ruby on Rails Developer Role Summary: Full‑stack developer building a green‑field platform for a tech‑for‑good charity, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining feature‑rich services and APIs using Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript, following TDD and Agile practices. Expactations: Deliver secure, maintainable code on schedule; collaborate closely with a small cross‑functional team; engage in technical decision-making; uphold best practices in software design, testing, and deployment; support continuous process improvement. Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and test new features, services, and APIs in Ruby on Rails. - Write clean, test‑driven code following security and maintainability standards. - Build front‑end components with HTML, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript frameworks. - Create and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity. - Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives. - Collaborate with internal and external developers on integrations and API usage. - Contribute to architectural discussions, establish coding standards, and enforce best practices. Required Skills: - 3+ years of commercial software development experience. - Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails and the Rails ecosystem. - Strong modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS/SASS proficiency. - PostgreSQL database design, query optimization, and performance tuning. - Version control with Git and Agile workflow experience. - Test‑driven development (RSpec, Minitest, Capybara, etc.) and security awareness (OWASP). - Effective communication and collaboration in small teams. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience. - Optional certifications: Ruby/Rails, Agile (Scrum/SAFe), or database credentials.
