**Job Title:** Supervisor, Passenger Equipment
**Role Summary:**
Lead and coordinate inspection, maintenance, and repair activities for passenger coaches, freight cars, locomotives, and related rail equipment. Ensure work is performed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with AAR, Transport Canada, and company standards while supervising a unionized team and managing third‑party contractors.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver safe, efficient, and timely completion of all truck work and maintenance tasks.
- Meet production schedules and minimize equipment downtime.
- Enforce PPE use, health‑safety policies, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate records, training documentation, and parts inventory.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Schedule and oversee daily, routine, and annual inspections of passenger coaches, freight cars, locomotives, OCS equipment, fleet vehicles, trucks, and fall‑arrest gear.
- Plan and coordinate Northlander and coach maintenance programs, including training sessions and meetings.
- Supervise shop infrastructure (oil separator, fuel stand, waste‑oil disposal) and building maintenance.
- Manage rip‑track/car repairs, special projects (e.g., dining‑car modifications, rail‑hauling cars) and emergency response to derailments, wheel changes, and road repairs.
- Dispatch crews for off‑site inspections/repairs at remote locations; oversee Hoesch crews and subcontractors.
- Order, store, and track parts and hazardous materials; ensure proper handling of explosives/T‑DG items.
- Monitor compliance with AAR, Transport Canada, and internal standards; complete health‑safety observations and Intelex reports.
- Assign work evenly across shifts, coordinate staffing, approve time‑off requests, and schedule apprentice training/rotations.
- Provide leadership, promote a safe work environment, and maintain clear communication with internal and external stakeholders.
**Required Skills:**
- Strong leadership and team‑management abilities in an operational, unionized setting.
- In‑depth knowledge of railway operations, equipment diagnostics, and location logistics.
- Understanding of electrical systems, drawings, and air‑brake systems for coaches and locomotives.
- Excellent communication, organization, time‑management, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, and other cloud‑based platforms.
- Commitment to health‑safety standards; ability to enforce PPE and safety procedures.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Secondary School Diploma, GED, or CAEC.
- Trade Certification: Railway Car Technician (268R) **or** Electrician – Construction & Maintenance (309A).
- Minimum 2–3 years relevant trade experience; prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Preferred: First Aid/CPR (including AED), WHMIS, TDG, overhead‑crane, and fall‑arrest training.
- Must pass criminal record check and employment reference verification.
