Job title: Regulatory Operations Lead (Aero & Robotics)
Role Summary:
Bridge regulator, engineering, and operational functions for unmanned aircraft and robotics products. Convert engineering designs into operationally safe, authorised, and scalable processes, leading UK operational authorisations, change management, and documentation control.
Expectations:
* Deliver credible operational authorisations with evidence and clear submissions.
* Embed safety and compliance into engineering design to minimise late‑stage blockers.
* Capture operational limitations as traceable requirements.
* Scale change & document control systems with product evolution.
* Enable executable UK flight scaling plans through staffing, rostering, and structure.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the operational customer for Aero & Robotics teams; define workflows, edge cases, and readiness criteria.
* Lead new and amended UK Operational Authorisations, liaising with regulators and stakeholders.
* Translate engineering outputs into operational processes, procedures, training, emergency handling, maintenance interfaces, and operational limits.
* Convert mitigation and limitation insights into testable engineering requirements.
* Co‑design verification strategies – ground/flight tests, simulations, and scenario exercises.
* Implement and maintain change control and document management for operational processes.
* Advise on staffing, rostering, and operational structure to support scalable UK flight operations.
Required Skills
* 5‑10+ years in regulated aviation or UAS environments with approvals, assurance, and evidence expertise.
* Proven experience with operational approvals or safety/assurance cases for regulators or designated bodies.
* Strong knowledge of UAS operational risk and safety methods (e.g., SORA) and mapping engineering decisions to mitigations.
* Ability to translate system behaviour into operational procedures, limitations, training impacts, and verification needs.
* Track record of driving requirements and verification with traceability and configuration control in safety‑critical contexts.
* Self‑starter capable of providing direction in ambiguous regulatory settings.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management across engineering, operations, customer teams, and external authorities.
* Right to work in the UK, willingness to travel nationally and provide occasional on‑call support.
* Desirable: BVLOS approvals, complex airspace integration, multi‑stakeholder trials, airworthiness interface knowledge, repeatable mobilisation processes, NOC/operations control exposure, and operational scenario exercising.
Required Education & Certifications
* Bachelor’s degree in aviation, aerospace engineering, aviation safety, or related technical field.
* Relevant regulatory certifications (e.g., Certified Aviation Safety Professional, FAA/UK regulatory compliance, or equivalent) preferred.
