Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

Job title: Senior Software Engineer Role Summary: Senior Software Engineer on a 3‑year digital transformation project. Works across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and automated testing. Focuses on production hardening, technical debt remediation and reliability, not feature delivery. Expectations: 5 days per week, remote with occasional travel. Must be eligible for SC security clearance (BPSS at application, SC required). 6‑month contract, outside IR35. Key Responsibilities: - Develop, maintain and enhance frontend applications using Express.js, TypeScript, templating engines and the shared design system. - Build, integrate and refine backend services in Kotlin with Spring Boot, including internal and external API interactions. - Deliver comprehensive automated testing (UI and backend) and champion TDD practices. - Address technical debt, improve system stability and support operational readiness. - Contribute to cloud infrastructure using Terraform, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions). - Collaborate in agile, multidisciplinary teams through pair programming, peer reviews and knowledge sharing. - Document work clearly and produce handover materials for ongoing maintainability. Required Skills: - Full‑stack development proficiency (frontend, backend, cloud infrastructure). - Experienced with Kotlin/Spring Boot for API development. - Familiarity with server‑rendered front‑end architectures (Express.js, TypeScript, templating engines). - Hands‑on experience with AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes and containerisation. - Solid grounding in event‑driven architectures. - Commitment to clean code, secure‑by‑design principles, and robust testing. - Excellent communication and remote teamwork capabilities. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience). - BPSS clearance required; SC clearance mandatory.
