**Job Title:** Forensics Mechanical Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Perform forensic investigations and failure analysis of mechanical systems and equipment for insurance and litigation matters. Deliver technical assessments, reports, and repair scopes to clients, insurers, and contractors while managing multiple projects on schedule and budget.
**Expectations:**
- Conduct on‑site inspections and data collection.
- Produce clear, defensible technical reports.
- Communicate findings to clients, insurers, code officials, and internal teams.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and client relationships.
- Travel to various sites and work in diverse environmental conditions.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Perform field inspections, loss analysis, testing, and data acquisition on mechanical assets (HVAC, plumbing, fire sprinkler, boilers, heat exchangers, turbines, pressure vessels, pipelines, cooling towers, etc.).
- Prepare detailed technical reports describing causes of failure, observed damage, and test results.
- Conduct desk reviews and develop repair scopes based on property loss assessments.
- Negotiate repair scope agreements with insured parties and contractors.
- Review building codes and industry standards; liaise with code officials as needed.
- Present analysis findings to colleagues and clients in written and oral formats.
- Research and author technical publications on forensic engineering topics.
- Oversee multiple concurrent assignments, ensuring timely and within‑budget delivery.
- Support client relationship retention and development.
**Required Skills:**
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb and perform physical tasks (climbing, standing, kneeling) for extended periods.
- Self‑motivated, ambitious, hands‑on, and collaborative team player.
- Willingness and ability to travel to field sites as required.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province (Ontario or Quebec preferred).
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical equipment/system design, production, construction, forensic investigation, or failure analysis.
