Job title: SC VMware Engineer
Role Summary:
Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments for a defence‑sector client, ensuring compliance with SC security requirements and delivering robust virtual infrastructure solutions over a 6‑month contract.
Expectations:
Provide continuous VMware support, meet security standards, document processes, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve issues and improve system performance during the contract period.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter platforms.
- Implement and maintain virtual networking, storage (vSAN, NFS, iSCSI), and high‑availability configurations.
- Monitor performance, capacity, and health metrics; proactively address bottlenecks and failures.
- Apply security patches, firmware updates, and hardening procedures in line with SC clearance protocols.
- Troubleshoot virtual machine, host, and storage issues using logs, command‑line tools, and monitoring dashboards.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, run‑books, and standard operating procedures.
- Support incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem reviews.
- Collaborate with system architects, network engineers, and security teams to integrate VMware solutions with broader infrastructure.
Required Skills:
- Proficient with VMware vSphere 6.x/7.x, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and related tools.
- Strong knowledge of virtual networking (vSwitch, NSX, VLANs, subnets).
- Experience with storage technologies and performance tuning.
- Scripting/automation in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Familiarity with compliance standards (NIST, ISO/IEC 27001) and defence security practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a hybrid team environment.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP‑DCV) or equivalent VMware credentials.
- Current SC (Security Check) clearance required; ability to maintain security compliance throughout the contract.
