Job Description
**Job Title:** Security Controller **Role Summary:** Lead the protection of personnel, information, and assets within a secure facility and across projects. Own the Facility Security Management System (FSMS), advise project teams on security matters, conduct assurance activities, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with government and defence regulations. **Expectations:** - Maintain a compliant, auditable security posture for all operations. - Translate evolving policy and risk landscapes into actionable controls. - Influence senior leadership and project teams to embed a practical security culture. - Deliver measurable improvements through audits, incident analysis, and corrective action. **Key Responsibilities:** - Oversee physical security, access control, and facility integrity to meet regulatory and contractual mandates. - Design, implement, and continuously improve the FSMS and associated procedures in line with government and defence standards. - Serve as the primary security adviser for project teams regarding handling, storage, transfer, and destruction of protectively marked materials and government-owned assets. - Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk reviews; identify non‑conformances and lead corrective actions to closure. - Support personnel security vetting activities, coordinating with Project Managers. - Develop and deliver targeted training, briefings, and guidance to raise security awareness across operational teams. - Monitor changes to MOD and industry security policy, translating updates into requirements for senior management and stakeholders. - Represent security matters at the Security Committee, providing concise reporting to senior leaders. - Manage day‑to‑day security incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, and disseminate lessons learned. **Required Skills:** - Proven experience in security management within defence, MOD, government, or regulated contracting environments. - In‑depth knowledge of government security frameworks, physical security, protected material handling, and related legislation. - Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain security management systems, policies, and audit programmes. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating technical requirements into business‑friendly guidance. - Meticulous attention to detail, disciplined risk identification, mitigation, and documentation. - Effective stakeholder engagement across all levels; influence senior leadership and sustain collaborative relationships. - Experience conducting security audits and driving corrective actions that deliver measurable improvements. - Leadership mindset: proactive, solution‑focused, and comfortable taking ownership in mission‑critical environments. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Relevant security‑related qualification or certification (e.g., DISA Security Controller, ISO27001 Lead Implementer, CISM, CISA, or equivalent) mandatory. - Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance. - Minimum university degree preferred; experience within MOD‑accredited programmes strongly preferred.
