Job Description
Job title: Anatomical Pathologist Role Summary: Full‑time anatomical pathologist performing surgical pathology, frozen sections, intraoperative consultations, and autopsies. Provides oversight of specimen grossing and collaborates with hospital laboratory staff. Expectations: - Deliver diagnostic accuracy and timely reports for all surgical cases. - Maintain competency in general surgical pathology; additional expertise in dermatopathology or gastrointestinal pathology preferred. - Participate in departmental quality improvement and accreditation activities. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct surgical pathology including frozen sections and intraoperative consults. - Complete autopsy procedures and report findings. - Gross all Level 3 surgical specimens; supervise and guide Level 1 & 2 grossing staff according to contractual standards. - Attend multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to patient management discussions. - Ensure compliance with laboratory standard operating procedures, safety, and regulatory requirements. - Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in audits, case reviews, and morbidity and mortality conferences. Required Skills: - Strong diagnostic acumen in general surgical pathology. - Proficiency with histologic interpretation, specimen handling, and report writing. - Leadership and teamwork skills for supervising grossing staff. - Effective communication with clinicians, laboratory personnel, and patients. - Commitment to continuing education and quality assurance. Required Education & Certifications: - MD or equivalent medical degree. - Board‑eligible or board‑certified in Anatomic and Molecular Pathology (or equivalent training in general pathology). - Completion of an accredited pathology residency and (preferably) a fellowship in surgical pathology. - Current provincial medical licence and valid pathologist registration. ---
