Job Description: **Job Title:** Staff Backend Engineer - Core Platform **Role Summary:** Lead the design and evolution of critical backend systems for a proactive healthcare platform. Focus on scalability, security, and reliability while driving engineering best practices. Collaborate cross-functionally to advance platform capabilities and mentor junior engineers. **Expectations:** - 10+ years backend engineering experience, including platform/infrastructure work. - Self-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and capable of planning complex work iteratively. - Proven expertise in building scalable systems and transitioning from monoliths to microservices. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design, maintain, and enhance backend systems (authentication, observability, feature management, communication infrastructure). - Implement CI/CD pipelines and test strategies to improve developer efficiency and product reliability. - Identify and resolve technical debt through architectural improvements and refactoring. - Ensure compliance with security standards for health and identity data (e.g., privacy, data encryption). - Mentor engineers and set technical standards across teams. - Advocate for technologies strengthening system reliability and developer experience. - Collaborate with product, security, QA, and clinical teams to align platform goals. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Flask) and AWS (cloud infrastructure). - Expertise in CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and DevOps workflows. - Strong data design skills with relational (Postgres) or NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases. - Experience with microservices architectures (REST, GraphQL, event-driven). - Security-first mindset, particularly with sensitive data. - Excellent communication and collaboration in dynamic environments. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. - Certifications in security frameworks (e.g., HIPAA) or cloud technologies (AWS) preferred but not mandatory.
