**Job Title**
Director Platform Engineering, Resilience & Cyber
**Role Summary**
Senior technical leader responsible for the design, delivery, and secure operation of government‑wide citizen‑facing digital platforms. Leads a multidisciplinary team (~100 staff), sets strategic direction for shared platform components, embeds security‑by‑design, and drives resilience and scalability for services used by millions of users.
**Expectations**
* Provide visionary leadership and hands‑on expertise in platform engineering and cybersecurity.
* Deliver high‑availability, fault‑tolerant services with rapid recovery, meeting stringent SLAs and security requirements.
* Maintain alignment with government priorities, emerging technologies, and compliance frameworks (NCSC, ISO).
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and knowledge sharing.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. **Platform Engineering & Delivery** – Own architecture and delivery of shared components (APIs, developer tools, cloud infra, CI/CD pipelines, shared services). Drive containerization, microservices, automated observability, and cost‑effective shared solutions.
2. **Cyber Security** – Define & implement cyber strategy leveraging zero‑trust principles, advanced threat detection, encryption, and identity management. Ensure compliance with NCSC guidance and ISO standards.
3. **Critical Infrastructure Resilience** – Build real‑time monitoring, automated alerting, incident response, and disaster recovery plans for nation‑scale systems. Ensure continuity under high load or attack.
4. **Technical Governance & Roadmap** – Own platform technical roadmap, set and enforce engineering standards (scalability, interoperability, cost‑efficiency). Align with national priorities and emerging tech.
5. **Team Leadership** – Lead engineers, architects, and cyber specialists; cultivate a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
6. **Stakeholder Engagement** – Collaborate with senior government leaders, cross‑government forums, industry partners, and regulators. Represent digital services and cyber security posture.
**Required Skills**
* Deep expertise in cloud‑native architecture, platform engineering, microservices, containerisation, CI/CD, and automated observability.
* Strong background in cybersecurity: zero‑trust, encryption, identity management, threat detection, incident response, disaster recovery.
* Experience delivering mission‑critical, 24/7 live services with high security and SLA requirements.
* Proven strategic leadership in establishing enterprise‑wide technical standards and governance.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing, and cross‑functional collaboration.
* Ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams and drive technical excellence.
**Required Education & Certifications**
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
* Professional certifications: CISSP, CISM, or equivalent cyber security credential; TOGAF, Prince2, or PMP (preferred).
* Experience with industry‑standard platform & security standards (ISO, NCSC, NIST).
