Job Description
Job Title: Security Engineer (Linux) Role Summary: Deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on enterprise Linux environments, integrating with existing security tools, automating deployments, and tuning alerts to ensure robust protection and compliance. Expectations: 6‑month contract with potential extension or conversion to full‑time; 1 onsite day per week (Toronto); independent and collaborative work, continuous learning mindset. Key Responsibilities: • Deploy, configure, and maintain Microsoft Defender for Endpoint across multiple Linux distributions. • Integrate Defender with IT and security toolsets, including Intune for AV policy and exclusion management. • Develop and maintain automation scripts (Ansible, shell, Python) for large‑scale deployment and configuration management. • Tune benign MDE alerts via suppression rules; collaborate with infrastructure and application owners to implement necessary exclusions. • Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, configurations, and exclusion procedures. • Provide technical guidance and training to internal teams on Defender best practices for Linux. • Monitor emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and Linux‑specific updates; recommend proactive mitigations. Required Skills: • 3+ years managing Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Linux. • 3+ years administering Red Hat or similar Linux distributions. • 3+ years scripting in Bash and Python; proficiency in Ansible for configuration management. • Networking fundamentals relevant to endpoint protection. • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Required Education & Certifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent experience). • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate, RHCE, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent. ---
