Job title: Senior Software Engineer I, Cloud and DevOps
Role Summary: Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of a production‑grade Kubernetes and compute platform that supports machine‑learning and computational biology workloads. Deliver automation, observability, and governance solutions that reduce toil, improve performance, and enable secure, cost‑effective scaling of internal services and research pipelines.
Expectations: - Operate shared clusters and CI/CD pipelines with high reliability.
- Drive automation-first DevOps practices to reduce manual interventions.
- Provide observability and performance insights to guide resource planning and cost optimisation.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to implement IaC, change management, and operational standards.
- Mentor and partner with platform‑team members through code reviews, runbooks, and shared ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Build and evolve Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, capacity planning, GPU scheduling, and incident response.
2. Automate deployment patterns, self‑service tooling, and guardrails across research and product teams.
3. Design and iterate monitoring dashboards, alerting, and instrumentation (tracing, telemetry).
4. Enhance infrastructure governance through IaC (Terraform) review, apply processes, and CI/CD reliability.
5. Develop runbooks, training materials, and operational standards to improve readiness and knowledge sharing.
6. Partner with peer engineers and business units to prioritize workload reductions, performance tuning, and cost‑efficiency initiatives.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Proven experience with Kubernetes production environments and Linux operations.
- Hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Automation mindset: scripting, CI/CD, guardrails, and workflow optimisation.
- Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, tracing libraries).
- Infrastructure‑as‑Code proficiency (Terraform, cloud‑native SDKs).
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and cross‑team collaboration abilities.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or Terraform Associate are a plus.
