Job Title: Registered Nurse – Dialysis Centre
Role Summary:
Provide patient/client‑centred, evidence‑based nursing care in a hemodialysis unit. Lead and collaborate with an inter‑professional team to deliver comprehensive care to patients with complex, high‑acuity needs, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Expactations:
- Maintain current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and BCLS/HCP certification.
- Deliver high‑quality nursing care that meets standards of the College, SJHH, and specialty guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
- Prioritise tasks, manage workload, and adapt to shifting clinical demands.
- Engage in continuous learning, professional development, and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for dialysis patients, including those with complex or unpredictable conditions.
- Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and manage dialysis-related treatments and equipment.
- Conduct patient education on dialysis, fluid management, and lifestyle modifications.
- Collaborate with physicians, dietitians, social workers, and other team members to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
- Resolve patient or family conflicts, provide crisis intervention, and employ conflict‑resolution techniques.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in patient information systems and incident reporting systems.
- Participate in shift hand‑offs, ensuring clear communication of patient status and priorities.
- Support unit leadership in maintaining a safe, efficient, and patient‑focused environment.
Required Skills:
- Clinical nursing knowledge of dialysis and complex patient care.
- Strong communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Leadership, problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and team‑building abilities.
- Conflict‑resolution and crisis‑intervention skills.
- Ability to prioritise, organise, and adapt to dynamic patient needs.
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, data entry, internet research, electronic health records).
- Gentle Persuasive Approach training (preferred).
Required Education & Certifications:
- Registered Nurse, valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) / Health Care Professional (HCP) certification.
- Minimum 2 years of current nursing experience, preferably with seniors and high‑acuity patients.
- Membership in a nursing professional association (RNAO, CNA, or equivalent) is preferred.
