Job Description
**Job Title** Legal Counsel – Investment Management (12‑Month Fixed Term Contract) **Role Summary** Provide legal support to the Investment Manager’s General Counsel across all legal and regulatory areas, including procurement, contracts, data protection, FOI, governance, HR, compliance and investment‑specific matters. Works closely with the Legal Team and business stakeholders to manage legal risk on a hybrid working schedule. **Expectations** Deliver timely, pragmatic legal advice across a broad portfolio of matters. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant laws, conduct horizon‑scanning, support implementation of changes, and provide guidance to junior legal staff. **Key Responsibilities** - Keep current on organisational legal obligations and regulatory developments. - Draft, negotiate and advise on employment, consultancy and other engagement agreements. - Handle procurement, including regulated Public Contracts Regulations 2015, and supply contracts, especially IT‑related. - Advise on investment‑related contracts (pooled funds, private markets) when experienced. - Manage FOI requests – advise on exemptions, draft responses. - Provide data‑protection advice, ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018. - Conduct horizon‑scanning, reporting and prioritising changing legal obligations. - Disseminate updates on applicable laws and regulations to business units. - Support rollout of legal and regulatory changes to maintain compliance. - Offer line management and mentoring to junior team members. **Required Skills** - Qualified lawyer or equivalent experience in a broad legal function. - Strong knowledge of commercial, procurement, data‑protection, and corporate governance law. - Experience in a regulated or complex organisation, preferably financial services or investment management. - Drafting, negotiating and advising on diverse contracts. - Horizon‑scanning and interpreting evolving regulatory landscapes. - Detail‑oriented, “completer‑finisher” mindset. - Ability to influence and challenge at all organisational levels. - Commitment to diversity, inclusion and teamwork. - Proficient IT and business application skills. **Required Education & Certifications** - Qualified lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister) or equivalent legal qualification. - Relevant legal qualifications (e.g., LPC, BCL, LLB) and ongoing professional development.
