Job title: Legal Engineer Role Summary: Transform complex legal texts into clear, plain‑language equivalents while maintaining legal precision. Integrate new legislation into an AI legal‑back end, conduct research on AI fairness, dark‑pattern regulation, and digital obligations, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance Fair Patterns’ AI solutions for EU, US, and Asian markets. Expactations: * 3–5 years post‑qualification (PQE) experience in law, preferably within privacy, consumer protection, or digital law. * Strong legal research background and familiarity with ISO plain‑language norms. * AI and technology literacy; ability to work with data‑driven legal tools. * Fluency in English and French; ability to operate in a global, multi‑disciplinary environment. Key Responsibilities: * Translate technical legal documents into plain language, ensuring scope and precision are preserved. * Identify and evaluate legal obligations related to dark patterns and digital conduct across multiple jurisdictions. * Analyze new legislation, update the AI tool’s legal database, and audit training data for compliance. * Conduct ongoing research on AI fairness, explainability, governance, and emerging regulatory developments in deceptive design. * Collaborate with Gen AI, design, legal counsel, and project management teams to embed legal insights into product development. Required Skills: * Legal analysis and research proficiency. * Ability to distill complex legal concepts into user‑friendly language. * Proficiency with AI/ML tools and data analysis platforms. * Strong written and verbal communication in English and French. * Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and capable of independent work and teamwork. Required Education & Certifications: * Qualified lawyer (law degree and admission to the bar). * 3–5 years of post‑qualification legal practice, with emphasis on privacy, consumer protection, or digital law. * Additional certifications in ISO plain‑language standards or AI ethics are advantageous.
