Job Description
**Job Title:** Optometric Assistant **Role Summary:** Provide front‑line support in an optometry clinic by greeting and scheduling patients, conducting pre‑testing, handling billing and referrals, and assisting with contact lens orders. Cross‑train with other departments to contribute to clinic workflow. **Expectations:** Full‑time, permanent position. Must be proactive, customer‑focused, and able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high attention to detail. **Key Responsibilities** - Greet patients (in‑person, telephone, or online). - Schedule and book appointments, including marking recalls and making cold‑call outreach. - Perform pre‑testing and auxiliary tests as instructed. - Explain procedures, costs, and insurance coverage to patients. - Check patients in and out, and manage referral process to other health professionals. - Assist with ordering, processing, and billing contact lenses and other supplies. - Ensure accurate billing and credit issuance for office orders. - Participate in cross‑departmental training and assist other teams as needed. **Required Skills** - Excellent verbal and written communication. - Strong interpersonal, customer‑service, and team‑working abilities. - Proficiency in computer use, especially Microsoft Excel and scheduling software. - Ability to perform cold‑call outreach confidently. - Time‑management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. - Capacity to work independently and meet deadlines. - Enthusiastic about learning and engaging with patients. **Required Education & Certifications** - High‑school diploma or equivalent (college diploma preferred). - No specific optometry certifications required, but prior experience in a medical or optometry setting is advantageous.
