**Job Title**
Network Architect
**Role Summary**
Design, implement, test, and maintain a high‑performance, resilient network infrastructure to support a radio‑based train control system. Ensure network security, reliability, and compliance with industry and transportation safety standards.
**Expactations**
- Lead architecture for wired and wireless components of a large‑scale train control network.
- Deliver secure, low‑latency connectivity between trains, trackside equipment, and control centers.
- Manage full lifecycle of network equipment, from procurement to decommissioning.
- Maintain regulatory and safety compliance, including NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, and railway standards.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop optimized network topology and high‑bandwidth, low‑latency designs.
- Implement redundancy, failover, and QoS policies.
- Design and deploy fiber‑optic backhaul and select sites for wireless infrastructure.
- Specify wireless standards (Wi‑Fi, LTE, 5G, proprietary) and manage spectrum allocation.
- Procure, install, configure, and commission routers, switches, access points, base stations, and controllers.
- Implement firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and conduct vulnerability assessments.
- Conduct performance, stress, failover, and latency test plans; troubleshoot findings.
- Document logical/physical layouts, configurations, policies, and operational procedures.
- Coordinate with civil engineering and contractors for fiber installation and testing.
- Monitor real‑time network performance and maintain maintenance plans.
**Required Skills**
- Network architecture, routing, switching, VLAN, multicast, and dynamic routing.
- Fiber‑optic design, installation, and testing.
- Wireless LAN/WAN design, spectrum management, and radio propagation analysis.
- Security technologies: firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, vulnerability management.
- Knowledge of NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, CISA guidelines and transportation safety standards.
- Documentation, diagramming (Visio, OmniGraffle), test planning, and monitoring tools.
- Strong problem‑solving, project coordination, and stakeholder communication.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, BSCI, CISSP, or equivalent network security and architecture credentials.
