**Job Title:** Data & Governance Specialist
**Role Summary:**
Support the final delivery phase of a major central government data transition programme by developing, reviewing, and approving key governance artefacts (DSAs, DPAs, DPIAs, etc.), ensuring legal accuracy of controller/processor responsibilities, managing IG risks, facilitating stakeholder workshops, mapping datasets and retention schedules, and reporting progress to the Data & IG Lead.
**Expactations:**
Deliver accurate governance documentation, maintain compliance with UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Caldicott Principles, and central government IG frameworks, manage risk mitigation plans, coordinate audits, and provide regular updates on governance and transition progress.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Author, review, and approve DSAs, DPAs, DPIAs, and related governance artefacts.
- Verify and maintain legal accuracy of controller/processor responsibilities during transition.
- Identify, document, and mitigate Information Governance (IG) risks; support audit and assurance activities.
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder discussions across Legal, Technical, Cyber, Programme, and Operational teams.
- Map datasets to purposes and retention schedules to ensure compliance with data protection and IG policies.
- Provide clear reporting and updates to the Data & IG Lead on governance progress and transition milestones.
**Required Skills:**
- Proven experience in data governance, information governance, or data management roles.
- Deep knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Caldicott Principles, and central government IG frameworks.
- Expertise managing DSAs, DPAs, DPIAs, and controller/processor documentation in public sector or health environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
- Excellent document control, assurance tracking, and reporting capabilities.
- Ability to work remotely with occasional travel to London.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Law, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in Data Governance or Information Governance (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional – UK, Certificate in Information Governance) are desirable.
