Communications Specialist (Consultant – CST Level II)
**Role Summary**
Lead the design and execution of WFP’s media engagement strategy in the UK, cultivating relationships with London‑based journalists, government communications teams, and high‑profile supporters to amplify awareness of WFP’s humanitarian mission.
**Expectations**
- Deliver a cohesive UK media strategy aligned with WFP’s global communications priorities.
- Generate measurable media coverage and public engagement that supports funding and partnership objectives.
- Maintain brand consistency and uphold WFP’s values in all outreach activities.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement a UK‑focused communications strategy, ensuring alignment with global corporate and media objectives.
- Build and nurture relationships with UK journalists, media outlets, and public figures.
- Monitor the UK media landscape, analyze trends, and proactively respond to opportunities and risks.
- Organize and manage media interviews, press briefings, and engagement events.
- Produce, adapt, and distribute content tailored for UK and global audiences, including press releases, storyboards, and digital assets.
- Collaborate with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to highlight the impact of UK aid funding.
- Coordinate advocacy campaigns, events, and initiatives that elevate WFP’s profile.
- Work with Goodwill Ambassadors and other high‑profile supporters to expand outreach and secure endorsements.
- Report on media performance, key metrics, and strategic insights.
**Required Skills**
- Proven experience in strategic communications and media relations for an international or humanitarian organization.
- Strong writing and editing expertise, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Network of contacts across UK media, government communication hubs, and civil society.
- Analytical mindset to assess media landscapes, identify trends, and measure impact.
- Excellent project management, stakeholder coordination, and event planning abilities.
- Ability to maintain brand consistency while tailoring messages to local contexts.
- Proficiency with media monitoring tools, content management systems, and digital platforms.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in strategic communication roles.
- Certifications in journalism, PR, or media relations (e.g., Accredited PR Professional, Journalism accreditation) preferred but not mandatory.
