Data Scientist (Agentic/Generative AI)
Job Description
**Job Title** Data Scientist (Agentic/Generative AI) **Role Summary** Design, build, and operationalise AI agents that leverage large language models (LLMs) for autonomous reasoning, planning, and task execution. Embed agents into existing council platforms, develop secure AI infrastructure, and ensure ethical, responsible use of AI across the organisation. **Expectations** - Complete a fixed‑term 2‑year contract. - Work in hybrid mode, integrating on‑site and remote work. - Apply iterative development to deliver functioning agentic solutions within business timelines. - Engage with cross‑functional teams and maintain a continuous improvement mindset. **Key Responsibilities** - Architect and maintain agentic AI systems using state‑of‑the‑art LLMs. - Adapt LLM architectures for domain‑specific tasks and refine prompts. - Integrate AI agents into case‑management, CRM, and reporting tools, enabling actionable outputs. - Build and manage scalable, secure AI infrastructure (vector databases, model registries, APIs). - Implement agent memory, context management, and long‑horizon task frameworks. - Lead ethical AI safeguards: DPIAs, fairness assessments, explainability, auditability, human‑in‑the‑loop controls. - Monitor agent performance, analyse success metrics, and iterate to reduce hallucinations and drift. - Collaborate with data teams to improve pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure supporting AI workloads. - Stay current on emerging AI and data engineering trends to inform system design. **Required Skills** - Proficient in Python (or equivalent) for building and integrating data solutions. - Experience with cloud environments (Azure/AWS/GCP) and orchestration tools. - Knowledge of LLMs, prompt engineering, and agent frameworks. - Understanding of data infrastructure: vector databases, model registries, secure APIs. - Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. - Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills. - Familiarity with ethical AI principles and responsible AI best practices. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience). - Preferred: Professional certification in cloud or data engineering (e.g., Azure AI Engineer Associate).
