Job Description
Job Title: Property Accountant (Contract) Role Summary: Account for commercial property portfolios, ensuring accurate financial reporting, lease accounting, and compliance. Manage full-cycle accounting, manage rent, CAM/Tax reconciliations, capitalize capital projects, and support budgeting, auditing, and cash flow management for an 18‑month maternity cover. Expectations: - Deliver timely, accurate financial statements and reports. - Maintain internal controls and audit readiness. - Work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Key Responsibilities: - Execute full-cycle accounting: journal entries, accruals, payroll, mortgages, leasing fees. - Prepare straight‑line rent schedules, CAM/TAX and HST reconciliations, and management fee calculations. - Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts to budget; identify and resolve high A/R balances or write‑offs. - Maintain capital project files, amortization schedules, and cash distribution plans. - Review and approve bank reconciliations and payable invoices. - Prepare government remittances, HST returns, and year‑end audit documentation. - Contribute to annual budgeting and special projects as assigned. Required Skills: - 3+ years of property management accounting experience. - Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. - Excellent verbal and written communication; collaborative relationship building. - Detail‑oriented, organized, self‑motivated. - Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities. - Experience with Yardi Voyager and property accounting systems is an asset. Required Education & Certifications: - University degree or college diploma in accounting or related field. - CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA.
