**Job title**: Fire & Security Engineer
**Role summary**:
Self‑employed, full‑time engineer responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire and security systems for commercial and residential projects across Glasgow and Edinburgh.
**Expectations**:
Deliver high‑quality system work within project timelines, adhere to industry safety regulations, and provide reliable on‑site support to clients. Demonstrate independence as a self‑employed contractor while maintaining professional standards and clear communication with management.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Install, configure, and commission CCTV, intruder alarm, door access control, and fire control systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, fault detection, and corrective repairs on installed equipment.
- Read and interpret architectural, electrical, and security plans to determine installation requirements.
- Perform system testing, commissioning, and handover to clients, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of installations, maintenance schedules, and warranty information.
- Provide on‑site troubleshooting and support for client‑reported issues.
- Keep up to date with product developments, industry standards, and regulatory changes.
**Required skills**:
- Proficiency with CCTV, intruder alarm, access control, and fire detection/control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Knowledge of electrical wiring, panel installations, and relevant UK regulations (BS 7671, BS 5385, BS 9999, etc.).
- Excellent client communication and service orientation.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and adhere to safety protocols.
- Basic software aptitude for system programming and commissioning tools.
**Required education & certifications**:
- Level 3 qualification in Fire & Security Engineering, Electrician, or equivalent.
- Certifications such as NVQ / BTEC in Fire & Security, EPCQS, or certified instructor status.
- Valid UK driver’s licence and access to company vehicle or personal transport.
