Job Description
**Job Title** VP Finance (Construction) **Role Summary** Senior executive responsible for overseeing all financial operations, strategic planning, and team development in a multi‑provincial construction company. Plays a key role in driving financial performance, ensuring compliance, and positioning the organization for future growth with a clear path to CFO. **Expectations** * Rapid mastery of Jonas ERP reporting capabilities. * Independent management of day‑to‑day finance functions. * Strategic contribution to budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning. * Implementation of process improvements and internal controls. * Mentoring and developing a high‑performance finance team. * Collaboration with senior leadership on corporate structure and incentive programs. * Preparation and oversight of annual audit and compliance requirements. **Key Responsibilities** - Oversee the full financial cycle: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and tax compliance. - Manage monthly bank covenant certifications and other compliance requirements. - Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external accounting firms. - Monitor cash flow; support executive team on capital expenditure decisions. - Maintain robust internal controls, segregation of duties, and fraud prevention measures. - Master Jonas ERP to generate and analyze financial reports for VPs and ownership. - Serve as day‑to‑day backup to the Controller. - Supervise BC accounting operations and address performance issues. - Oversee purchasing department operations, change‑order approvals, and workflow optimization. - Collaborate on cost‑to‑complete forecasting and budgeting. - Drive purchasing analytics, software enhancements, and deal optimization. - Research and recommend ERP system upgrades for scalability and analytics. - Advise on corporate structure optimization and employee incentive/share programs. - Manage and mentor five direct reports: Controller, Accounting Manager, BC Manager, Purchasing Manager, and related staff. - Foster a culture of continuous improvement and cross‑functional collaboration. **Required Skills** - CPA designation with relevant construction or related industry experience. - Advanced financial management, including job‑costing, tax compliance, and budgeting. - Proficiency in ERP systems (Jonas preferred). - Strong analytical, forecasting, and reporting capabilities. - Leadership, coaching, and talent development skills. - Experience with internal controls, segregation of duties, and fraud prevention. - Strategic planning and executive communication. - Ability to manage audit engagements and external partners. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. - Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (mandatory).
