Job Description
Job Title: Database Administrator Role Summary: Ensure the high performance, integrity, and security of the organization’s databases. Design and maintain database architecture, monitor performance, implement backup and recovery procedures, and support disaster recovery efforts. Act as a liaison between developers, analysts, and the information security team to optimize data models and enforce access controls. Expectations: - Deliver reliable, optimized database environments that meet performance, availability, and security targets. - Respond promptly to troubleshooting requests and resolve performance or data integrity issues. - Stay current with evolving database technologies and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities: - Install, configure, and maintain database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL). - Monitor databases, analyze performance metrics, and implement tuning strategies. - Design, maintain, and test backup and recovery processes. - Develop and enforce database access controls and user permissions. - Collaborate with developers and analysts to design and optimize data models. - Conduct regular database audits and capacity planning. - Investigate and resolve database incidents and performance bottlenecks. - Document procedures, policies, and best practices. - Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing. Required Skills: - Proficient in datacenter and cloud-based database administration (AWS, Azure, GCP). - Expertise in database performance tuning and optimization. - Knowledge of database structures, theory, and best practices. - Experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes. - Strong project and time‑management skills. - Detail‑oriented with high accuracy. - Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands. - Effective communication and customer‑service orientation. - Troubleshooting and analytical problem‑solving. - Independent work capability and collaboration with third‑party vendors. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent accredited certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. - Proven experience as a DBA or in a comparable role. - Valid certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional, or equivalent preferred.
