Job Description
**Job title** Principal Structures Engineer **Role Summary** Lead the Structures section, managing a team of professionals to deliver inspections, assessments, monitoring, and maintenance for Council assets (bridges, retaining walls, pedestrian subways, coal tips, reservoirs) in compliance with policies, legislation, codes of practice, and contractual duties. **Expectations** - Provide strategic and operational leadership of the structures team. - Act as the primary officer for all structural matters within the authority. - Maintain rigorous compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. - Demonstrate all essential qualifications and professional credentials. **Key Responsibilities** - Direct and supervise day‑to‑day work of structural engineers and support staff. - Plan, coordinate, and conduct structural inspections and condition assessments of key assets. - Define and implement monitoring regimes for ongoing asset health. - Oversee maintenance programmes and corrective interventions. - Produce technical reports, briefings, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders. - Ensure records and documentation meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. - Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and inter‑departmental teams. **Required Skills** - Advanced structural engineering knowledge and analytical skills. - Proven leadership and project management experience. - Strong written and verbal communication. - Proficiency in structural design and analysis software. - Ability to interpret legislation, codes, and contractual documents. - Stakeholder coordination and customer service orientation. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. - Professional registration (e.g., CEng, PEng, or equivalent). - Extensive experience with bridge, retaining wall, subway, coal tip, and reservoir structures. - Evidence of all essential qualifications must be supplied.
