Job Description
**Job Title**: Internship – Solar Mask Modeling and Prescription Tool Development (Building) **Role Summary**: Develop and consolidate solar mask modeling processes for building energy simulations and prototype a simplified web-based tool for prescribers. Focus on automation, data integration, and performance analysis for solar protection systems. **Expectations**: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Energy/Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Applied Physics, or Digital/Data Science. - Strong interest in building energy/light simulation and digital tool development. - Minimum 2-3 technical skills from specified software/stacks. - Attention to detail, documentation, and ability to work autonomously while collaborating in a team. **Key Responsibilities**: 1. Develop physical/digital models for solar masks (geometry, ray-tracing, climate parameters). 2. Automate modeling workflows (Python/Rhino/Grasshopper). 3. Prepare sensitivity analyses and simulation scenarios for experimental validation. 4. Structure input/output datasets for model validation. 5. Prototype a user-friendly web tool for solar mask prescription (e.g., Streamlit/Python, web frameworks). 6. Design inputs/outputs for prescribers (comparative analysis, exportable reports). **Required Skills**: - Software: EnergyPlus/DesignBuilder, Radiance, Rhino/Grasshopper, LBNL Window. - Programming: Python (pandas, automation), Git. - Data handling: Data structuring, parsing. - Prototyping: Web UI (Streamlit, web stack). - Tools: Revit/IFC, BSDF standards. - Domain knowledge: Building optical/thermal performance, solar protection, summer comfort. **Required Education & Certifications**: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Energy/Building Engineering, Applied Physics, Civil Engineering, or Digital/Data Science. - No specific certifications required.
