Job Description: **Job Title** Principal Functional Safety Engineer **Role Summary** Lead functional safety lifecycle management for industrial projects in accordance with IEC 61511, ensuring compliance with client and company specifications and relevant standards. Serve as the primary functional safety liaison throughout project definition, development and execution, preparing and reviewing all key safety documentation, conducting assessments, audits and validation, and coordinating cross‑disciplinary inputs. **Expectations** - Deliver functional safety products that meet or exceed regulatory and client requirements. - Manage multiple concurrent safety projects, prioritising tasks and resources effectively. - Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to project stakeholders and technical teams. **Key Responsibilities** - Prepare, review and approve functional safety documentation: FSP, FM procedures, Safety Requirements Spec, SIS Impact Analysis, SIL calculations, Emergency Depressurisation/Blowdown specs, SVP, etc. - Conduct functional safety assessments, audits, security risk assessments and independent verification of deliverables. - Conduct SIS verification and validation reviews and coordinate end‑to‑end proof‑test procedures for SIF loops. - Manage functional safety activities in ExSILentia (or aeShield) and track project man‑hours. - Oversee safety‑system integration and ensure IEC 61511 compliance. - Provide operator documentation for operation and maintenance of safety systems. - Participate as functional safety expert in HAZOP/CHAZOP and Deterministic SIL workshops. - Model complex SIS loops using FTA (Isograph) and coordinate discipline inputs. **Required Skills** - Deep knowledge of the IEC 61511 SIS lifecycle and related safety‑engineering disciplines. - Proficiency with ExSILentia (or aeShield) and FTA modelling (Isograph). - Strong documentation and audit skills, with ability to prepare comprehensive safety plans and procedures. - Effective communication and coordination across multidisciplinary teams. - Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple safety projects simultaneously. - Understanding of IEC 62443 cybersecurity principles as they apply to functional safety. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering. - Certified Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE) or equivalent TUV FS certification. - Significant experience in brown‑field upgrades/replacements of automation and control systems.
