Job title: Senior Systems Technician
Role Summary: Provide technical leadership for help desk, GIS, and web support within a city police department. Oversee troubleshooting, training, and project implementation for LAN/WAN and related systems, ensuring reliable public‑safety IT operations.
Expectations: • Lead and mentor a small technical team to resolve complex system and application issues. • Maintain high service‑level standards, documenting incidents and trends. • Communicate performance metrics and improvement recommendations to management. • Drive continuous learning and professional development for staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, prioritize, and monitor help‑desk support assignments, ensuring timely resolution.
• Develop and maintain staff schedules, training programs, and workflow procedures.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, GIS map/data, and web‑page maintenance issues.
• Manage LAN/WAN installation, configuration, upgrades, and performance monitoring.
• Resolve network connectivity, operating‑system, and application problems, escalating as needed.
• Maintain inventory databases for computers, peripherals, and related IT assets.
• Coordinate and lead projects involving desktop and system deployments.
• Provide city‑wide training on hardware, software, and applications.
• Build positive working relationships with colleagues, city employees, and external partners.
• Ensure compliance with safety programs and IT security best practices.
Required Skills — Hard:
• Technical supervision and staff training.
• LAN/WAN concepts, network operating systems, and troubleshooting.
• GIS fundamentals, automated mapping, database management.
• Web‑page maintenance and web‑system debugging.
• Project management principles and execution.
• Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).
