Job Description: **Job Title:** COBOL (Java Spring Batch) Developer **Role Summary:** Experienced developer responsible for modernizing a large legacy mainframe application suite by converting COBOL code to Java/Spring Batch solutions. Works within a federally‑contracted team to design, build, test, and support batch processing while ensuring compliance with agency standards and security requirements. **Expectations:** - Minimum 10 years of hands‑on COBOL, Java, and Spring Batch experience. - Proven ability to analyze, translate, and maintain complex mainframe applications. - Active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance and U.S. citizenship. - Collaborative engagement with analysts, architects, testers, and SMEs. - Adherence to coding, security, and documentation standards. **Key Responsibilities:** - Maintain, enhance, debug, and support legacy COBOL applications on Z/OS. - Design, develop, test, and deploy batch jobs using Java and Spring Batch. - Convert functional logic from COBOL (VSAM, IDMS, DB2, CICS, JCL) to Java/Spring Batch equivalents. - Write and maintain Z/OS JCL scripts for batch scheduling and execution. - Troubleshoot production issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. - Participate in code reviews and continuous‑improvement initiatives. - Collaborate with cross‑functional team members to validate business logic and ensure integration integrity. **Required Skills:** - COBOL development on mainframe (maintenance, enhancement, debugging). - Java development with strong expertise in Spring Batch framework. - Z/OS JCL authoring and maintenance. - Knowledge of mainframe data stores (VSAM, IDMS, DB2) and CICS. - Batch‑processing architecture and system integration patterns. - Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication abilities. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. - Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) and eligibility for DFAS background investigation (Non‑Critical Sensitive / IT‑II). - U.S. citizenship (per federal contract and export law requirements).
