Technical Manager – Automotive and Industrial
**Role Summary**
Lead a globally distributed team of engineers to adapt Canonical’s open‑source Linux ecosystem for automotive and industrial standards (ISO 21434, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO 9001, ASPICE, UNECE R155/R156). Define strategy, roadmap, and engineering processes that meet stringent safety, security, and quality certifications while fostering a collaborative, agile culture.

- Deliver a compliant, secure, and high‑quality Linux distribution for automotive/industrial markets.
- Grow and mentor a high‑performing engineering team with coaching, feedback, and career development.
- Champion open‑source practices, agile delivery, and continuous improvement across engineering and external partners.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Partner with Product Management to refine automotive vision and strategy.
- Define and execute the automotive engineering roadmap and technical strategy.
- Represent Canonical/Ubuntu to customers, partners, and industry consortia.
- Build, coach, and lead a globally distributed team; set clear objectives and manage expectations across engineering, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with automotive and industrial standards (ISO 21434, ISO 26262 ASIL B‑D, IEC 61508, SOTIF, ISO 9001, ASPICE).
- Advocate agile practices; evangelise modern software development, quality, and security practices.
- Coordinate cross‑functional collaboration to deliver timely, high‑quality software that meets regulatory requirements.
**Required Skills**
- Expertise in Linux, open‑source ecosystem, and embedded development.
- Deep knowledge of automotive/industrial standards (ISO 21434, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, SOTIF, ASPICE).
- Strong programming background in C/C++ and Python.
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams; coaching, mentoring, and performance delivery.
- Track record of timely delivery of high‑quality, safety‑critical software.
- Experience with functional safety, embedded systems, cloud integration, and related technology trends.
- Familiarity with agile development environments and continuous delivery pipelines.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Functional Safety or related certification (e.g., ISO 26262 ASIL qualification) preferred.
