Job Description
**Job Title** Mechanical Engineer Intern – Crack Propagation Analysis in Reactor Piping **Role Summary** The intern will conduct detailed 3D thermo‑mechanical finite element analyses (FEA) of planar defects in pressurised water reactor (PWR) piping. The focus is to establish reference results, evaluate and validate semi‑analytical methods through numerical regression, and define the applicable validity range of simplified approaches. **Expectations** - Work independently while collaborating closely with the mechanical modelling team. - Deliver reproducible FEA models and validated semi‑analytic predictions. - Communicate findings clearly in written and oral formats. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Build and run 3‑D elastic thermo‑mechanical FEA models with planar defect representation. 2. Post‑process stress, strain, and stress‑intensity factor outputs to create reference datasets. 3. Apply numerical regression techniques to implement coded semi‑analytical models. 4. Compare semi‑analytic outputs to FEA results and assess agreement. 5. Propose a generic methodology and document its validity domain for complex pipe geometries. 6. Maintain project documentation, model files, and reports. **Required Skills** - Proficiency in Python for data processing, regression, and scripting of FEA workflows. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities. - Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. - Good written and verbal communication skills in English (additional languages a plus). **Required Education & Certifications** - Current enrolment in a 5‑year engineering degree or Master’s program, specialising in numerical mechanics, solid mechanics, or fluid mechanics. - No formal certification required, but demonstrated coursework or projects in FEA and mechanical modelling is essential.
