Lead Data Scientist
**Role Summary**
Lead end‑to‑end data science initiatives for large public‑sector and defence clients, acting as the primary client point of contact while steering cross‑functional technical teams. Deliver novel machine‑learning models, analytical solutions, and clear stakeholder communication while upholding engineering best practices and cloud‑native deployment.
**Expectations**
- Serve as main technical and business liaison for high‑profile clients.
- Design, build, and operationalise scalable ML solutions that meet client objectives.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and project guidance to the data science team.
- Maintain compliance with security and regulatory requirements, including maintaining or achieving a UK SC clearance.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. **Client Engagement** – Own client relationships, translate business needs into analytical directives, and present complex findings in an accessible manner.
2. **Solution Architecture** – Define model design, data pipelines, and deployment strategies ensuring performance, reproducibility, and maintainability.
3. **Team Leadership** – Coach junior members, set technical standards, and coordinate multi‑project delivery.
4. **Technology Management** – Build CI/CD pipelines, containerise workloads with Docker, and orchestrate via Kubernetes or equivalent.
5. **Cloud Operations** – Deploy and monitor services on AWS, Azure, or GCP, optimizing for cost, scalability, and security.
6. **Governance & Compliance** – Adhere to data protection and security standards; manage code reviews, documentation, and audit trails.
**Required Skills**
- Advanced proficiency in Python and associated ML libraries (scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, etc.).
- Strong analytical reasoning and experience delivering production‑grade models.
- Proven client‑facing communication, ability to simplify technical concepts, and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Leadership experience overseeing technical teams and projects.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with public‑sector data environments and regulatory constraints.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP platform services (compute, storage, ML services).
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (minimum 5 years UK residency, readiness to obtain SC clearance).
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
- Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Data Scientist Associate, or equivalent) are advantageous but not mandatory.
