**Job title:** Principal Infrastructure Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Deliver senior level architectural leadership for enterprise infrastructure, defining strategic direction, standards, and roadmaps. Drive reliability, security, and operational excellence while enabling platform modernisation, IaC adoption, CI/CD improvement, and cost optimisation. Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholder leadership, influence decisions across teams, and mentor senior engineers.
**Expectations:**
- Lead cross‑team technical initiatives independently without direct authority.
- Influence enterprise architecture, security, compliance, and cost decisions.
- Communicate complex trade‑offs clearly to leadership and technical teams.
- Rationalise and optimise legacy systems, reduce systemic risks, and simplify architecture.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Define architectural standards, patterns, and technical roadmaps.
- Produce and maintain design documents, RFCs, and governance artefacts.
- Align solutions with enterprise architecture, security, compliance, and cost constraints.
- Resolve cross‑team architectural challenges using data‑driven decisions.
- Enhance incident management, post‑mortems, and change processes.
- Establish reliability metrics, risk dashboards, and capacity planning.
- Lead disaster recovery validation and reliability initiatives.
- Drive platform modernisation (IaC, CI/CD, cost optimisation).
- Define ownership models, standard patterns, and promote self‑service infrastructure.
- Reduce ad‑hoc solutions and escalations.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and governance boards.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers through design reviews and documentation standards.
- Present technical concepts and trade‑offs to executive stakeholders.
**Required Skills:**
- Deep expertise in enterprise infrastructure (networking, IAM, CI/CD, observability, security tooling).
- Proven experience with cloud platforms, container orchestration, and IaC (Terraform).
- Strong foundation in SRE/DevOps principles.
- Ability to identify hidden system risks, legacy issues, and simplify system design.
- Cross‑team leadership and influence without direct reporting authority.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills (design docs, runbooks, executive summaries).
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
- 12+ years of experience in infrastructure/platform engineering.
- 5+ years in architect/principal‑level roles.
- Certified AWS/Azure Architect, CISSP, CISM, or TOGAF preferred (optional).
