**Job Title:** AI/ML Engineer **Role Summary:** Design, develop, and deploy advanced AI/ML solutions—including large language models (LLMs) and edge‑focused modules—for defence and national security applications. Work in small, high‑performing teams to solve novel, technically complex problems while adhering to security and compliance requirements. **Expectations:** - Deliver robust, production‑grade AI systems from concept through deployment. - Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineers and stakeholders. - Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and emerging technical challenges. - Communicate technical decisions clearly both internally and to external partners. - Maintain eligibility for security clearance and adhere to defence‑grade standards. **Key Responsibilities:** - Architect and design AI/ML system components, ensuring scalability and reliability. - Implement MLOps pipelines for model training, validation, and continuous delivery. - Fine‑tune, evaluate, and optimise LLMs (e.g., inference optimisation, KV‑caching, speculative/parallel decoding). - Develop prompt engineering, agentic workflows, evaluation harnesses, and retrieval pipelines. - Build and integrate AI modules for constrained, edge, or air‑gapped environments. - Apply explainable AI, AI safety, and security best practices to model development. - Contribute to problem‑solving from first principles and assist teammates across skill areas as needed. **Required Skills:** - System design and software engineering (Python, C/C++ preferred). - Hands‑on experience with MLOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD). - In‑depth knowledge of LLM principles and optimisation techniques. - Proven ability to fine‑tune and evaluate large language models. - Experience with prompt design, agentic workflows, and retrieval‑augmented generation. - Development for edge or air‑gapped platforms (resource‑constrained environments). - Familiarity with explainable AI, AI safety, and security considerations. - Strong problem‑solving mindset, adaptability, and clear communication skills. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree (2:1 or First Class) in a STEM discipline from a recognised university. - Eligibility for UK security clearance (or equivalent) required. - Defence‑sector experience advantageous but not mandatory.
