Job Title: Principal Data Scientist
Role Summary: Senior individual contributor responsible for leading the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery of advanced machine learning systems within a FinTech SaaS platform. Works closely with Engineering, Product, and GTM teams to build production‑ready, scalable AI that drives customer value and revenue.
Expectations:
- Set the data science roadmap and technical direction for the product suite.
- Own end‑to‑end ML pipelines, from model development to deployment and monitoring.
- Deliver high‑impact AI features that enhance user experience and commercial outcomes.
- Mentor mid‑ and senior‑level data scientists and champion best practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and own the data science roadmap and technical strategy.
- Architect scalable ML systems and end‑to‑end pipelines integrated into the core SaaS platform.
- Evaluate and experiment with emerging models, including LLMs and deep learning techniques.
- Build, train, validate, and deploy ML solutions for risk modeling, anomaly detection, personalization, optimization, and predictive analytics.
- Lead experimentation cycles, ensure model production readiness, and partner with ML engineers to scale, optimise, and improve reliability.
- Collaborate with Product to define AI‑driven features and translate modeling outputs into actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders.
- Influence strategic decisions in a hyper‑growth environment and represent the data science team in technical discussions, customer workshops, and industry events.
- Mentor and coach senior and mid‑level data scientists; advocate data science best practices organisation‑wide.
Required Skills:
- Deep expertise in machine learning, statistical modelling, and modern AI techniques (supervised/unsupervised, time‑series, Bayesian, deep learning).
- Strong Python engineering skills including NumPy, Pandas, scikit‑learn, and PyTorch/TensorFlow.
- Experience building scalable ML systems in production (MLOps, CI/CD for ML, model optimisation).
- Proven track record in high‑growth (startup or scale‑up) environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management; ability to influence at all levels.
- Understanding of financial services, risk, compliance, or decision‑science is a bonus.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Relevant certifications in machine learning or artificial intelligence (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, AWS ML, GCP AI) are a plus.
