Job Description
**Job Title** Speech and Language Therapist **Role Summary** Provide assessment, intervention and support for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver individual and group therapy, plan interventions, and provide specialist advice to schools and families. **Expectations** * Newly qualified or returning to practice, current NHS Band 5 (or equivalent). * Cultivate a general paediatric caseload while expanding expertise in stammering, speech disorders, AAC, selective mutism, complex needs and autism. * Actively engage in clinical, safeguarding and peer supervision; pursue in‑house and external training to maintain and develop expertise. * Demonstrate flexibility, proactive learning and a commitment to service‑development. **Key Responsibilities** • Conduct psycho‑educational and clinical assessments of pupils in mainstream schools and early years settings. • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and group therapy sessions. • Deliver classroom‑based support and collaborate with teachers to integrate therapy into the curriculum. • Provide specialist advice to parents, carers and multi‑disciplinary colleagues (Paediatrics, Physiotherapy, OT, CAMHS). • Identify training needs and organise or attend appropriate professional development. • Maintain accurate clinical records, progress reports and statutory documentation. • Participate in safeguarding and clinical governance activities, including clinical and peer supervision. • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and quality assurance projects. **Required Skills** * Proven clinical assessment and intervention skills in paediatric speech and language therapy. * Knowledge of specialisms: stammering, speech disorders, AAC, selective mutism, autism, complex needs. * Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and liaise with schools and families. * Strong communication, documentation and professional judgement. * Commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice. * Safeguarding awareness and ability to meet statutory duties. **Required Education & Certifications** * Completed a recognised postgraduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (e.g., MRes, MSc). * Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist. * Current NHS Band 5 status (or equivalent); for students, Band 4 entry pending registration. ---
