Job Description

**Job Title** Software Engineer – Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) **Role Summary** Design, implement, and optimize high‑performance ground‑based SAR image processing software. Work with the SAR payload team to ingest raw instrument data packets, develop algorithmic baselines, and transform data into Single Look Complex (SLC) images. Ensure robust data handling, calibration, and image quality while meeting stringent performance and latency targets. Collaborate across engineering disciplines and provide onsite support as required. **Expactations** - Deliver efficient, scalable SAR processing solutions that satisfy engineering specifications. - Maintain clean, well‑tested code aligned with best practices and version‑control standards. - Participate in weekly onsite reviews in Portsmouth to support close technical collaboration. - Communicate progress, challenges, and results clearly to multidisciplinary teams. **Key Responsibilities** - Interface with the SAR payload engineering team to parse and unpack raw telemetry packets. - Define and implement theoretical and algorithmic baselines for SAR data processing into SLC products. - Optimize and parallelize processing algorithms (GPU/CUDA, OpenMP, MPI) to meet performance and latency requirements. - Validate data handling, calibration procedures, and image quality throughout the processing pipeline. - Collaborate with engineering, science, and validation teams to integrate outputs and refine outputs. - Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration pipelines. **Required Skills** - Proven experience in SAR, radar signal processing, or related remote sensing systems. - Strong background in image processing algorithm development (FFT‑based, time‑domain). - Proficiency in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB for scientific/numerical computing. - Experience with parallel and high‑performance computing (GPU/CUDA, OpenMP, MPI). - Understanding of telemetry packet structures and data formats. - Familiarity with scientific software design, Git, and testing methodologies. - Strong mathematical and analytical skills; ability to translate theory into production code. - Excellent communication and collaboration in cross‑functional teams. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related STEM field. - Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) preferred for theoretical SAR expertise. - Certifications in C/C++ programming, CUDA development, or parallel computing are advantageous. ---
