Some Info About Us:

At Leadwell, we believe in developing leaders. We are a team driven by faith, service, and growth with a passion for making a positive impact on people and the world around us. Our approach to leadership development is built on Biblically-based principles, and using leading research and practical solutions, we are committed to serving 10 million leaders by 2035 -- one leader at a time.

If this excites you, it might be time to join us. Here's why else:

What We Offer:

A workplace culture that prioritizes relationships, doing work that matters, and delivering impactful results.

The chance to help build a new SaaS from the ground up, that will serve thousands of people, focusing on usability, reliability, and scalability.

A collaborative, values-driven culture where shipping quality software and continual improvement are celebrated, not just task completion. Be part of the design.

Flexible and Fully Remote Hours

Potential Professional Development funding provided to support your continued learning & growth - eligible after 8-weeks of engagement and 60 or more cumulative hours.

Salary Range For This Role:

$50 - $125/hour, minimum 5-10 hours/week (rate is dependent on experience)

The Role:

This hourly contract role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining SaaS features in Ruby, including server-side logic, API endpoints, Custom CSS, and integrations that align with product goals and user needs. Responsibilities include working with PostgreSQL for schema design, query optimization, and data integrity, leveraging Heroku Postgres and related operational tooling. The engineer will manage deployments and app operations on Heroku (pipelines, add-ons, review apps, error-monitoring, logging/metrics), emphasizing security, performance, and reliability.

You're Probably a Match If...

A strong communicator who thrives in async collaboration and can estimate, break down, and deliver scoped work independently.

Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable Ruby code and to design robust, scalable, secure features for production SaaS systems.

You utilize AI coding tools, but as an enhancement, not a replacement, and can manually execute and monitor testing.

Comfortable operating in Heroku with PostgreSQL, including provisioning, monitoring, backups, and plan selection to meet app needs.

Product-minded engineer who cares about customer outcomes, UX, and iterative delivery guided by metrics and feedback loops.

What Success Looks Like In This Role:

Serving as a key technical contributor, providing expertise and guidance to help the team succeed.

High-quality, incremental feature delivery in Ruby aligned with product priorities, with clear PRs, tests, and documentation that enable smooth review and release.

Reliable app operations on Heroku with healthy pipelines, fast rollbacks, meaningful logs/alerts, and pragmatic use of add-ons, especially Heroku Postgres.

Measurable improvements in performance and stability, including optimized SQL queries and schemas that support current and future SaaS growth.

Positive stakeholder feedback due to responsive communication, clear tradeoffs, and consistent follow-through on commitment.

Qualifications:

Proven experience delivering production Ruby or Ruby on Rails applications, with strong grasp of server-side architecture, RESTful APIs, and testing practices.

Proficiency with PostgreSQL: schema design, indexing, query tuning, migrations, and data integrity for multi-tenant or B2B SaaS contexts.

Hands-on experience deploying and operating apps on Heroku with Github, including pipelines, review apps, config vars, add-ons, and CLI-based operations.

Familiarity with secure coding, dependency management, and performance profiling in production, with a preference for test-driven or coverage-aware workflows.

Can own transactional email setup, monitoring, and success - utilizing webhooks, API calls, SLAs, and liquid-based templates.

Excellent written communication and ability to work part-time, remote, and outcome-driven within US Time Zone collaboration windows.

BONUS: You have experience with AI (ML & LLM) Orchestration and MCP design and deployment. And/or experience with Azure DevOps, Azure Blobs, Azure AI Foundry
