In compliance with Board policies and procedures, responsible for coordinating Caretaking services for various schools and facilities within the assigned area(s) of the Board.

Major Responsibilities

To coordinate Caretaking services for assigned schools and facilities.
To assist in the development of operational plans.
To oversee site service contracts for schools and facilities.
To facilitate staff training for cleaning, disinfecting and preventive maintenance of facilities and building systems.
To support the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics, ensuring alignment with the Trustees Multi-Year Strategic Plan and Director’s Action Plan.
To support the management of employee relations, including hiring, performance management, and conflict resolution, in accordance with collective agreements and Board policies and procedures.
To support and monitor the implementation of robust preventative and predictive maintenance programs to optimize asset lifespan and minimize operational disruptions.
To support the coordination and manage responses to emergency situations and after-hours calls.
To collaborate effectively with school administrators, teaching staff, parent councils, community groups, and other internal and external partners to address facility needs and concerns.
To attend and participate in various meetings and committees as required.
To perform other duties as assigned.

Education Experience And Qualifications

Three years of post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Business, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent, as approved by the Board, is required.
Minimum seven to ten years of progressive experience in facility operations and management, with at least three-five years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably within a large institutional or public sector environment (e.g., school board, university, municipal government) is required.
Experience working in a unionized environment and interpreting collective agreements is required.
Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and computer skills are required.
Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.
Requires a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to transportation.

LEADERSHIP

Directly supervises the Supervisors of Facility Services.
Responsible for leading a team within caretaking operations, to developing a culture of safety, care, and continual improvement to service.
Supports the Manager, Facility Operations in overseeing daily facility operations across assigned sites.
Provides ongoing mentorship, professional development opportunities, supports the recruitment and training of Caretaking supervisors and staff.
Communicates confidential matters with individuals and groups within and outside of the Board as it relates to facility operations practices and related legislation.
Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with multiple departments, contractors, and internal and external partners for the coordination of caretaking operations.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND DECISION MAKING

Responsible for maintaining knowledge of and adherence to Board policies and procedures and applicable legislation, regulations, building codes, and Health and Safety standards (e.g., Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Education guidelines).
Responds to emergency situations and provides direction and support.
Assists in managing budgets and resource allocation including commodities, contract services, and caretaking equipment.
