Job Title: I&C Sensor Engineer
Location: Site at Sizewell B & Cranefield
Travel: All transport covered by client
Role Type: Engineer (not Technician)
Required: High Security clearance at least (SC Level)
Role Purpose
To support the maintenance, calibration, integration, and operational performance of nuclear-grade instrumentation sensors and associated control systems for Sizewell B. The role includes specification, programming, testing, and linking of field instrumentation to control and automation functions.
Key Responsibilities
Perform engineering activities related to field sensors, including installation design, calibration, configuration, and life-cycle monitoring.
Work with temperature sensors including PT100 RTDs and thermocouples (IEC 60751 / IEC 60584).
Configure and verify flow transmitters, level and pressure transmitters in safety and non-safety classified systems.
Integrate sensors into control command systems, ensuring correct data acquisition and stable signal processing.
Develop, modify, or troubleshoot control system logic and automation sequences to ensure correct process response to instrumentation inputs.
Ensure sensor wiring, shielding, grounding, and routing are compliant with I&C and EMC nuclear standards.
Participate in loop checks, commissioning, validation, and testing activities on-site at Sizewell B.
Support failure analysis (FMEA), diagnostics, and maintenance strategies for ageing or drifting instrumentation.
Maintain all documentation according to nuclear safety, configuration control, and QA procedures.
Technical Skills Required
Strong knowledge of thermocouples and PT100 (industrial and/or nuclear grade).
Experience with flow, level, and pressure transmitters (e.g., differential pressure, vortex, ultrasonic, radar).
Ability to program or configure control command / PCS / DCS / PLC systems (e.g., Ovation, Foxboro, Siemens, Rolls-Royce Spinline, teleperm, or equivalents).
Understanding of sensor signal conditioning and upgrading or integrating new measurement chains.
Familiarity with industrial automation protocols (4–20 mA, HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus, etc.).
