Database Developer (MongoDB | AWS) – Contract role

Location: Hybrid option near Halifax, NS

Contract Type: Contractor (potential for full-time conversion based on performance and business needs)

Duration: Through June 2026

Pay Rate: $60-$70 CAD/hour

About the Role

We’re seeking a talented Database Developer to design, optimize, and scale cloud-based database solutions that power high-performance, data-driven applications.

This newly created Level 4 position is ideal for a mid-level developer eager to deepen their expertise in MongoDB, AWS, and modern DevOps practices while working with a high-impact team that values innovation and collaboration.

What You’ll Do

Design and implement high-performance MongoDB databases for complex workloads.
Manage and optimize AWS RDS (MySQL/Aurora) environments, focusing on performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
Collaborate with developers to design efficient data models, queries, and indexing strategies.
Integrate database deployments with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and Flyway.
Monitor performance with AWS CloudWatch and Datadog; proactively troubleshoot and resolve bottlenecks.
Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance across environments.
Support migrations and interoperability between RDBMS platforms.

Your Background

Must-Have Skills

3+ years of hands-on MongoDB experience (design, performance tuning, optimization).
Strong AWS experience (RDS/Aurora; MongoDB hosted on AWS).
1–2 years of MySQL/Aurora experience (development or administration).
Familiarity with Kubernetes (EKS) or containerized environments.
Experience with GitHub-based CI/CD and database version control (Flyway, Liquibase).
Proven ability to optimize queries and design scalable database schemas.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines for database automation.
Familiarity with monitoring and orchestration tools (Datadog, Docker).
Understanding of additional AWS services (CloudWatch, IAM, Lambda).
