Typical Day in the Role
• Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is to develop a brand-new game within the Xbox division, focusing on casual games built using web technologies.
• Key projects: This role will contribute to creating a new game title, collaborating with back-end and front-end engineers, and shipping features in fast-paced, iterative sprints.
Candidate Requirements
• Disqualifiers: Candidates focused solely on enterprise apps or lacking experience with modern web technologies and frameworks will not be eligible.
• Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain experience with Solid JS, TypeScript, CSS, strong design collaboration (Figma), data integration, mobile-first development, and an eye for detail/pixel-perfect polish.
Hard Skills Assessments
• Expected Dates that Hard Skills Assessments will be scheduled: After candidate shortlisting; likely early December following supplier submissions.
• Hard Skills Assessment Process: The assessment process will include a Teams audio-only interview (no video), technical questions, and problem-solving exercises focused on frameworks and data integration. Two levels of interview.
• Required Candidate Preparation: Candidates should have core knowledge of Solid JS, TypeScript, CSS, and be ready for a framework and data integration problem.
Summary:
Front-end engineer focused on building responsive, performant, and polished web game experiences using modern frameworks and tooling.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, and Design to deliver high-quality features.
- Translate Figma designs and interaction specs into tested, accessible, production-ready UI components and pages.
- Enhance and extend existing design systems and framework code.
- Refine visual polish, fix defects, and bring implementations up to spec (pixel precision).
- Participate in code reviews and follow established quality, security, and accessibility standards.
- Plan, track, and communicate progress using project/task management tools.
- Instrument features for telemetry, performance, and error tracking (where applicable).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- 5–7 years of professional front-end engineering experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-directed with effective time management.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, profile, and optimize front-end performance.
Core Knowledge
- Web development life cycle (planning, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance).
- Tooling: Node.js, npm, Visual Studio / VS Code, Azure DevOps, Git.
- Languages & formats: HTML5, CSS3 / SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript (TS/TSX), JSON.
- Frameworks & build tools: React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Solid.js, Webpack, Vite (code-splitting, bundling, asset optimization).
- Design collaboration: Figma (components, constraints, tokens).
- Data integration: RESTful APIs, JSON payloads (error handling, pagination, caching strategies).
Desirable Previous Experiences:
- Pixel Perfect UI implementation
- Single page applications (routing, state management)
- JSX/TSX (extensible, modular, reusable, dynamic html components)
- CSS animation/transitions
- Responsive/Reactive screen size support
- Web accessibility (WCAG 2.x AA compliance: semantics, ARIA, focus management).
- HTML Canvas
- Mobile-first and Touch Input ergonomics
- Performance optimization/analysis
- Web Game development concepts
- Web Security (XSS, CSRF)
Top Skills:
Minimum 5 years' experience with CSS
Minimum 3 years' experience with TypeScript
Minimum 3 years' experience with SolidJS
